Carbs

December 12, 2013

After a stressful doctor's appointment this morning, I decided a treat was in order. My daughter had been raving about a little restaurant she and some friends had been to recently, and so we went there for brunch together. I think any attempts at following a paleo diet have by now truly fallen by the wayside. Look at this wonderful plate of carb deliciousness.

Yes, that is ice cream on top of wonderfully light waffles, drizzled with chocolate and raspberry sauce and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Dollops of whipped cream for good measure.  My daughter did a carb brunch too.

She had some kind of apple French toast with spiced rum sauce. We ordered Moroccan coffee just to be extra decadent.

That is fresh mint and thin slices of almond. There were cardamom pods in the coffee. It was interesting, a little reminiscent of some Indian curries. But in coffee? However, in the spirit of trying new things, I took some tentative sips, and tried to feel exotic. But then, look:

Sludge. Really. I could not choke it down. The coffee is very finely ground and not filtered. I did not know that. Well, sometimes things work out and sometimes not, and I decided it was time to order a regular coffee. Our waiter was very nice, and insisted we didn't need to pay for the Moroccan coffees. I left him a good tip.

Ah. A lovely cup of regular coffee. All in all, a satisfying meal.

And here's a handmade Christmas card.

My daughter made this. So simple and cute. I hope to make a few myself this weekend, although not with buttons. Mine have to go through the mail!
